Sloop Point
Volunteer Fire Department (SPVFD) was established in 1974 and has
since grown to accommodate over 50 members. The department plays a
vital role in the community with a district covering approximately
25 square miles. SPVFD was renovated in 2008 to make room for future
members and more equipment and apparatus. The department now
responds to both Fire and EMS calls, requiring paid staff to
maintain EMT and Firefighter I & II certifications. They also
respond to Water Rescue and Search and Rescue (SAR) calls. There are
4 full time paid firefighters which include the Chief of the
department, Scott Sills. The department also has an internship,
consisting of 6 members who reside at the department and work shifts
to ensure adequate coverage at all times. Currently the department
maintains an ISO Rating of 6.
